Whepstead

Pictures of buildings mentioned in the second edition “Suffolk” volume of “The Buildings of England” series by Sir Nikolaus Pevsner.

After the church the second edition entry for Whepstead has three items: for Doveden Hall, Manston Hall and Plumpton House. All three are in brackets meaning they were not actually seen by Pevsner. I have that in common with him as the two photographs that follow were kindly sent to me by Mike McConnell who retains the copyright.

First, "Doveden Hall, 1m NW. C16 with mid-C19 facing. Octagonal chimneys." shown here:

Then "Manston Hall, 1m S. Probably late C15. Well restored. Timber-framed with oversailing first floor and thatched roof. Group of polygonal chimneys." As below:
